Signature Hole – The 382-meter par 4 18th is the signature hole that requires an accurate tee shot to thread the fairway bunkers.

The 2nd shot is played uphill to a bunker surrounded by flat green.

Chance to finish the round with a birdie!

Described by many as the ultimate hideaway course where the tranquility is tangible.

Elevated tees play to mounded and bunkered fairways that are protected by natural “wooga grass”, and the name says it all! Don’t go there.

The prevailing wind plays its part and the contoured greens will test the putter.

2. Quarry Oaks Golf Club

Signature Hole – The 360-meter par 4 17th is the signature hole and plays from an elevated tee high above the fairway.

Water cuts into the hole halfway down the fairway and covers the right side of the green, which is long and narrow.

The course rolls through a forest of oaks and craggy terrain as it winds its way to elevation changes, small hills, and swales.

Doglegs both ways, large bunkers and big tiered greens add to the challenge.

The last 4 holes are as tough as any other finishing holes on any other course.

Keep your head and your score.

3. Indian Creek Golf Club | Gray Hawk/Red Feather

Signature Hole – The 174-meter par 3 8th is the signature hole and plays to a green protected by a lake front-right, and a creek left-back.

Distance control is required and take the wind into account before selecting a club.

Indian Creek golf club has 27 holes of pure magic. Each 9 offers something different, but plenty of fun.

Accuracy and length are required on the Red Feather 9 to score well and the large mounds, water, and bunkers will test all skill levels.

Shape Rating: 89.8

Signature Hole – The 346-meter par 4 7th is my choice of signature hole and also the no 1 index on the card.

Accuracy off the tee to avoid hazards is paramount and playing from the fairway will set the golfer up to make par.

Check the wind!

A true links-style layout that was inspired by Irish-links courses and built on natural sand dunes.

The course weaves up, around, and over these dunes throughout the round.

Expect deep pot-bunkers, natural grasses, undulations, and the wind can create havoc with the scorecard.

The large contoured greens are extremely difficult and a few big numbers can be anticipated if inaccurate approach shots are executed.

5. Iron Horse Golf Club

Signature Hole – The 526-meter par 5 10th is my choice of signature hole and is an extremely tough hole.

Played off the tee to a narrow landing area, protected by wetlands on the left, and a lake on the right.

The 2nd layup is as tough as it climbs up towards the green and a target shot is required.

Make par and run!

Built around a rock quarry that offers unbelievable scenic views as the elevation changes open up the landscape.

The course meanders through cottonwood and burr oak forests, with the natural prairie grass and wetlands ever-present.

A strategist and target golfers delight.

6. Indian Creek Golf Club | Red Feather/Blackbird

  • Par: 72
  • Length:  6,542 meters off the Tips and 5,179 meters off the Front.

Overall Rating: 91.9
Fun Rating: 92.9

3 tee options available.

Signature Hole – The 527-meter par 5 4th is the signature hole on Blackbird and plays to a fairway pinched by a bunker on either side of the landing area.

Doglegs right towards the green and the fairway narrows, requiring a 3rd shot through a gap in the trees.

This combination plays long and the water and bunkers are strategically placed throughout the layout.

Undulations and the prevailing winds require a hole per hole strategy to keep the scorecard going.

Water is ever-present.

7. Indian Creek Golf Club | Blackbird/Gray Hawk

PLAYER RATING

Overall Rating: 90.8
Fun Rating: 92.6
Shape Rating: 88.9

Signature Hole – The 423-meter par 4 9th is the signature hole on the Gray Hawk 9 and plays into the prevailing wind over a lake.

The fairway zig-zags between bunkers up to the green and an accurate tee shot will set up the hole.

A tremendous combination that will test the skill levels of all who play it.

Bunkers, water, undulations, and some lengthy holes will demand accuracy with the driver when brought into play.

The prevailing wind plays its part throughout, and make sure to factor this in on approach shots.

8. Widerness Ridge Golf Club | Championship Course

wilderness-ridge-golf-club

  • Site Link
  • Location: Lincoln, Nebraska.
  • Par: 71
  • Length: 6,496 meters off the Tips and 5,452 meters off the Front.

PLAYER RATING

Overall Rating: 90.6
Fun Rating: 91.8
Shape Rating: 89.4

3 tee options available.

Signature Hole – The 547-meter par 5 14th is my choice of signature hole and is a 3-shotter for the average golfer.

An accurate tee shot, followed by a well-judged 2nd to the favorite club distance out, will present an opportunity to attack the green with the approach.

Surrounded by water this semi-island green will “jangle” the nerves.

This course offers fairly open terrain off the tee and distance control will set up the opportunity to attack the greens.

Water comes into play throughout, and trees line some of the fairways.

Strategically placed bunkers lie in wait, but the bold golfer will enjoy this track.

9. Woodland Hills Golf Course

  • Par: 71
  • Length: 5,868 meters off the Tips and 5,068 meters off the Front.

PLAYER RATING

Overall Rating: 90.2
Fun Rating: 95.5
Shape Rating: 85

3 tee options available.

Signature Hole – The 189-meter par 3 6th hole is the signature hole and what a golf hole!

It plays from the tee over a creek that cuts into the fairway at the front of the green.

The same creek covers both the left and right side of the green and trees stand proudly behind.

Get the club right!

This course has been awarded many accolades by various golf magazines and is a fantastic layout.

Irrespective of the skill level, the choice of tee will allow golfers to set their own challenge.

Built on a tree farm it offers fairly generous fairways, well-bunkered green complexes, lakes, and flowing creeks throughout.

10. Tiburon Golf Club | Great White/ Hammerhead

  • Par: 72
  • Length: 5,996 meters off the Tips and 5,623 meters off the Front.

PLAYER RATING

Overall Rating: 88.3
Fun Rating: 88.1
Shape Rating: 88.6

2 tee options available.

Signature Hole – The 379-meter par 4 3rd hole is the signature hole and is a beauty.

Accuracy with the tee shot to avoid OB on the right and a well-placed bunker on the left is a must.

The downhill approach over water can be intimidating.

Don’t be too long!

This 27-hole facility has golf holes golfers dream about.

The Hammerhead/Great White is a challenging layout with risk and reward holes on offer to the bold player.

Lakes, doglegs both ways, sloping fairways and greens, uphill and downhill lies will test the ability of the best.

Pick the right tee for ability and enjoy.

An open, windswept, links-style course with huge bunkers and a few difficult water carries.

The gigantic greens will test the efficiency with the “flat stick” and the accuracy of the approach shot.

Expect a few 3-stabs.

Final Thoughts

Nebraska may not have as large a selection of golf courses as other states, but playing any of these on offer will bring pleasure to the enthusiast.

Enjoy!
