The purpose of this post is to review the Callaway Edge vs Strata golf sets to see which is the best option for beginners.
Over the years, I have written countless reviews on golf sets for beginners, and while various options exist, I have always been pro Callaway.
The reason for this is because their sets cover every aspect of your game, from tee to green, compared to competitor products that are more focused on your long game than the short form.
Things to Consider Before Buying a Golf Set
Budget
The varying prices of golf sets mean that it is necessary to set a budget and know what you can afford. Acquiring a beginner’s golf set is more affordable than individual clubs and is a financially astute way to start playing golf.
Woods
Although most sets include a driver, some golf sets do not include any fairway woods, as the manufacturers opt for hybrids. If you prefer carrying a fairway wood, make sure that it comes with either a three or 5-wood.
Hybrids
Hybrids are a popular feature in modern-day golf sets and are loved for the easy launching design, optimal forgiveness, and consistent distance. Many everyday golfers prefer hybrids to long irons. That is why a 6-iron is often the strongest lofted iron.
If you struggle to launch a four or five iron, it is worth looking for a set that includes hybrids.
Irons
The standard structure of a modern-day golf set includes four irons, a six, seven, eight, and nine. Since these clubs are for beginners, they are cavity-backs with perimeter weighting designed to deliver optimal forgiveness and ball speed.
Wedges
You may encounter sets that only include a pitching wedge, which I would stay away from. Your short game is vital, and you need the correct tools to succeed. Without a sand wedge, you will struggle with chips and bunker shots.
Bag
The price of some sets might seem like a good deal, but they may not include a bag. It is an easy fix as there are plenty of golf bags on the market. But do some math and see if it isn’t more affordable to purchase a set that includes one.
Callaway Edge
The Callaway Edge set features ten clubs, including a driver, fairway wood and hybrid, four irons, two wedges, and a putter. Although it includes all the clubs you need to get around the course, this set does not come with a bag.

Features & Benefits
Driver & Fairway Wood
The longest clubs in the Edge set are a 10.5-degree titanium driver with a fast forgiving face. And a low profile 3-wood for a higher launch.
Hybrid
Callaway included one hybrid in the Edge set to substitute your four and five iron. The hybrid is easy to launch and gives you a high straight ball flight. However, you may struggle with gapping between the 3-wood and this club.
Irons
As is the norm with modern golf sets, The Callaway Edge combo holds four cavity back irons. A 6-iron is the strongest loft club in the category, and it runs down to a nine iron.
Wedges
Opposed to competitor products, the Callaway Edge set features two wedges. A pitching Wedge promotes optimal spin and shot-stopping power, while an oversized sand wedge offers exceptional turf interaction for cleaner shots out of the sand and the rough.
Putter
The Callaway Edge set sports an Odyssey White Hote Pro putter with a Super Stroke grip. The putter suits players with an arc putting stroke and who need to reduce wrist movement.
Callaway Strata
Contrary to the Edge clubs. The Callaway Strata set includes an additional hybrid and a lightweight stand bag. Other than the putter, the strongest lofted club in the set is the 12.5-degree driver, followed by a 15.5 degree three wood.
Furthermore, a four and five hybrid replaces the long irons in the set, leaving the six as the strongest lofted iron. Plus, Callaway added a pitching and sand wedge to the set to cover your pitch and chip shots. Finally, a mallet-style putter caps off the package.
Features & Benefits
Driver and Fairway Woods
Callaway’s easy launching 12.5-degree Strata driver combines with the set’s 15.5-degree three wood to optimize your distance and forgiveness in your long game.
Hybrids
Unlike the Edge set, Callaway added two hybrids in the Strata combo. The inclusion of 22-degree 4-hybrid bridges the gap between the 15.5 degrees 3-wood and 5-hybrid experienced with the Edges
Irons
The Strata set features a six, seven, eight, and nine cavity back iron that sports an oversized profile and promotes straighter ball flight and increased forgiveness.
Wedges
Like the Callaway Edge’s, the Strata golf set includes a pitching wedge and sand wedge. A pitching wedge will assist you with longer pitch shots, while a sand wedge will help you with short chips and bunker shots.
Putter
Bag
The fact that the Strata set comes with a bag is already better than its Edge counterpart. But, the bag is handy, with a stand, five pockets, and a backpack strap system.
Alternatives to the Callaway Edge vs Strata Golf Sets
1. TaylorMade RBZ Speedlite Set
The ten club TaylorMade’s RBZ Speedlite’s are one of the higher-priced golf sets available. A 10.5-degree driver promotes explosive ball speeds for exceptional distance off the tee, supported by a high-launching 3-wood.
TaylorMade substituted the four and five iron in the set for a 4-hybrid, and as usual, there are only four cavity back irons.
Three clubs in the set cover your short game, a pitching wedge, sand wedge, and high stability, pure roll putter. This set also features an impressive 14-way top bag with a well-structured base.
The TaylorMade RBZ Speedlite set is suited to the beginner who wants the best and is willing to pay for it.
2. Wilson Men’s Complete Golf Set
Like the Callaway Edge’s, this Wilson golf set features ten clubs, including two woods, a hybrid, four irons, two wedges, and a putter.
Wilson left a 3-wood out of the set, instead opting for a 5-wood, while a 5-hybrid replaces the long irons. Unlike the Callaway Edge set, Wilson threw in an ergonomically designed stand bag.
3. Cobra XL Complete Set
Cobra’s XL Complete Set offers you more clubs than most packages out there. With three woods, including a driver, three, and five wood. The set bridges the gapping issue faced in the long game with other sets.
Furthermore, the set’s four and five iron is replaced by a four and five hybrid, while the standard six to nine-iron configuration exists.
Finally, Cobra added a pitching wedge, sand wedge, and putter to keep you in contention around the greens. Plus, they threw in a spacious cart bag to keep you organized around the links.
Of all the alternative options, the Cobra XL set offers you the most value for money.
Final Thoughts
Our review of the Callaway Edge vs Strata golf sets helped us determine which option is the best for a beginner.
The Callaway Strata set beat the Edge package for two main reasons. Firstly, the Strata set comes with a bag. And, secondly, it offers one extra hybrid club that bridges the gapping issue between the 3-wood and 5-hybrid.
If you are looking for your first set of clubs and want an all-around option that covers your long, mid and short game, the Callaway Strata’s are worth considering. You can find out more information on the set’s specs here.
