David Glod founded Tour Edge and has been at the helm of the company since its founding in 1986. He is the person who designed and manufactured the first golf club under the Tour Edge banner.
He had a great desire to play professionally and realized this dream playing pro-level golf for a short time at the Village Links Gold Club, Illinois.
It was during this stint as a professional golfer that Glod came to the realization that premium brands were dominating the market and the needs of the average recreational golfer on a limited budget were neglected.
Glod’s vision for the company was to create technologically advanced golf products for recreational golfers that want game improvement clubs at an affordable price without sacrificing durability and quality.
Having built the brand into a recognizable brand during the initial 13 years by sticking to its core values of building quality clubs for recreational golfers at an affordable price point, Glod decided to venture into the competitive professional golfer market in 1999.
Venturing into the professional arena was risky as can be attested to by many other companies that tried this before since the club requirements between professional golfers and recreational golfers are vastly different.
The first club to be introduced into the professional market during the 1999/2000 season was the Tour Edge hybrid which was universally accepted by professionals and recreational golfers alike.
Tour Edge was able to bridge the gap as they were already in the market producing high-quality clubs and Glod had experience gained during his time as a professional golfer on what professional golfers require.
After the initial venture into the professional golfer market, requests from professional golfers grew and Tour Edge soon began producing golf clubs for PGA players.
The success achieved by providing golf clubs to professional golfers pushed Tour Edge to start manufacturing custom-built golf clubs by introducing its Hot Launch project.
Under the Hot Launch project, you can place an order for your specifications and Tour Edge undertakes to deliver it within two working days from its manufacturing facility in Chicago.
Even though successful in the professional market, True Edge stayed true to its roots by launching its all-hybrid Bazooka set in 2003 to cater to the entry-level recreational golfer.
Success in the professional golfer market spurred Tour Edge on to formally enter the super-premium market in 2005 with its Exotics line of golf clubs.
Today Tour edge has three ranges of golf clubs to cater for golfers of all abilities ranging from their Bazooka entry-level clubs, Hot Launch for golfers that want fitted clubs, and Exotics for Tour Professionals.
Tour Edge does not rely on professional golfers to be sponsored to sell its products and all clubs found on professional tours are paid for by the golfer.
Who Makes Them And Where They Are Made Now?
Tour Edge clubs are still manufactured by the company’s facility in Chicago and all Exotics and Hot Launch clubs are hand-built in the Chicago, Illinois facility.
Exotics
The Exotics range of clubs is manufactured from high-grade and innovative materials in limited quantities on request from Tour Professionals. Due to the quality of clubs more than 500 Exotics clubs have been used by more than 70 golfing professionals on the various PGA Tours.
These clubs generally feature Tour Edge Ultra-Premium 8-1-1 Titanium Face which is shallower than other clubs produced by Tour Edge. The Titanium face features a lower density allowing the designees to reposition the weight.
The assembly of Exotics uses a complex process of ‘brazing’ where metals are fused by laser-directed chemical bonding rather than the standard internal welding. This allows tour Edge to reduce the weight even more while it enhances the flexibility of the clubface.
Other innovative features in the Exotics range include an Adjustable Hosel that allows loft to be changed +/- 2 degrees offering an exceptional range between 7.5 degrees and14 degrees.
For additional weight saving, Tour Edge offers Triple Carbon Tech placed on the crown, heel, and toe of the sole. The weight saving allows the engineers to reposition weight into the back of the clubhead
Diamond Face introduces a hotter face to increase ball speeds, reduce spin and enhance performance on off-center hits
Hot Launch
Hot Launch is a complete set of premium game improvement clubs ranging from driver to wedge. You can select your specifications whereafter Tour Edge will deliver the custom fit clubs to you within two working days.
Bazooka – Get in the Game Range
The Bazooka range, also knows as the “Get in the Game” product line, is Tour Edge’s entry-level clubs aimed at beginners, women, and juniors and has become the identity of Tour Edge and paved the way for it to become the leading brand among recreational golfers.
Bigger heads on the Bazooka range offer golfers to get more distance and forgiveness at an affordable price.
Golfers Using Tour Edge Golf Clubs
Tour Edge golf clubs are used on all major tours and international competitions. To date, they have claimed 22 victories (10 PGA TOUR, 11 PGA Tour Champions, and one Korn Ferry Tour (old Web.com)).
Golfers that play Tour Edge clubs include Scott McCarron, Tom Lehman, Tim Petrovic, Bernhard Langer, John Daly, and Duffy Waldorf.
It is not only golfers on a tour that use Tour Edge clubs but also 3-time (2006, 2016, and 2018) World Long Drive Championships and record holder of the longest drive hit by a female.
Final Thoughts
Since the founding of Tour Edge clubs, they have grown from strength to strength by building quality golf clubs for recreational golfers and later expanding into the professional arena.
Success in the professional game has not moved Tour Edge away from its founding ideals and mission. They have grown to be one of the top-10 golf club manufacturers in the world.
The 3 brands cater to different markets offering different qualities. Professional golfers pay more for top-quality golf clubs while the Bazooka range remains affordable for recreational golfers.
